Animas River Topsoil Closed

All good things must come to an end. Our topsoil business is closed. I am grateful we have worked together to beautify our region.

The topsoil from Waterfall Ranch has been used all over La Plata, Montezuma, Archuleta, and San Juan counties in Colorado, as well as the Navajo Nation and San Juan County, New Mexico. Animas River Topsoil is under city parks, community gardens, vegetable gardens, tree-lined streets, flower gardens, greenways, fairways, and lawns.

We enjoyed a great team of dedicated and talented people throughout the years. Most recently Jason, excavating soil, planting trees, mitigating weeds, irrigating, and a few other tasks. We are grateful for the dozens of truck drivers who delivered our soil throughout the four corners.

Ed had a vision of creating wetlands in the Animas Valley. As part of the permitting process with La Plata County, we were allowed to extract topsoil. Years later, some of our hayfields have beautified our region, and a wetland have been created on our property.

Eighty-eight acres of Waterfall Ranch east of Highway 550 are in a conservation easement. More than 47 acres of wetlands are complete, and we will finish the additional 8 acres over the next few years. When we started, the Durango Bird Club counted 26 different species of birds. The number of species has increased to 134.

On behalf of the Zink family and past and present employees, I thank you for your business, friendship, and encouragement. We appreciate you believing in us and buying our topsoil.

Sincerely,
